The Cook Islands has its own grading standards based on the Tahiti A to D system. Cook Islands pearls are graded into categories of A, B, C and D. All other pearls that fall below D Grade are considered by CIPA to be “Low” and “Reject” and cannot be traded by the Pearl Exchange. Only A, B and C grade pearls that have been through the accreditation value chain may be marketed under the Avaiki brand.

Cook Islands Pearls are graded according to five attributes: Size, Shape, Surface Quality, Colour and Lustre.
