Cook Islands Pearl Market Day

The 2014 Pearl Market day was held at Rarotonga’s major market location; the Punanga Nui. Pearl Market Days promote the Cook Islands Pearl Industry and provide opportunities for pearls to be showcased and sold at a specific trade event. The market attracted local shoppers and tourist visitors and sales were brisk.

CIPA provided a photographic display about the pearl industry for the interest of visitors in the rotunda. The Marae Moana Marine Park committee had an information display. Crown Beach Hotel had a wedding display and promotion with a pearl theme. Netball in Paradise (the Black Pearls National Team) sold their T shirts.
A TAV resort wear and pearls fashion show was complimented by a live performance by Avarua School and Mark Short’s drumming group. Pearls for the models were sourced from the vendors present at the Market Day and promoted during the show.

Vendors on the day included pearl farmers Mehau Johnson, Nancy Kora, Lesley Okotai, Apii McLeod, plus jewellers and craftspeople Tarani Napa, Paul Rattle, Vaiana George, The Pearl Lounge and Tokerau Jim. Island Craft also opened, Manihiki Pearl Tech, Maria File artist, Tevaevae women’s group was working by the main stage and an assortment of food vendors provided tasty snacks and drinks.
